This is just something I want to write down now, when the memory is fresh, before the collective gaslighing sets in:
President Trump’s campaign ran on undeniable racist themes, and the voters saw the bigotry as a feature and not a bug. When Clinton called half of his supporters bigoted, there was no wave of “oh no, not me!” from Trump supporters. Nobody claimed that it was only a fringe group. Instead we saw a bold and massive embrace of the “deplorable” moniker. We’re probably going to spend the next four years trying to pretend otherwise, and there are reasons for that, but for my own sanity, I just want to write down now that Trump voters, when called deplorable bigots, didn’t deny the charge, but instead wore the title as a badge. And the Trump campaign supported them in that.
